RentCompare does not require login or account creation. Comparison data is stored in your browser's localStorage. If you use the "Save & Share" feature, your comparison data (property names, costs, and calculated totals) is stored in our database to generate a shareable link.
We do not collect names, emails, phone numbers, or any personal identifiers through the comparison tool. The contact form on our Contact page collects only the information you voluntarily provide (name, email, message).
We use third-party services to power certain features: an AI service generates plain-English comparison summaries, an address autocomplete service helps normalize property addresses, a database service stores shared comparisons and contact form submissions, and a utility rate service provides estimated electricity costs by location. These services receive only the data necessary to perform their function.
We may use basic, anonymous page view analytics. No advertising cookies. No cross-site tracking.
We also record anonymous usage events — which steps of the comparison tool are used, and whether a comparison was completed, saved, exported, or shared — so we can tell how the tool is actually used. These events include a randomly generated session identifier that is stored only for the duration of your browser session and is discarded when you close the tab. It is not linked to you, to any account, or to any comparison you save. It is not shared with third parties and is not used to track you across sites. These events never include apartment addresses, rent figures, or any other detail you enter.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
